The
following are taken from written notes or
hospital records made by some of the professionals charged
with the welfare and recovery of Christie and Danny. As you will
see there is an obvious methodology involved on the part of Christie. What is also obvious, is the
efficacy of this methodology. As to the ethics and legality of it however,
it would appear they never got a foot in the door.
5-19-83
(date)
The shooting.
5-26-83
Christie denies that she recalls any details of the
events
leading to her hospitalization. She appears genuinely confused about
how her injuries occured, (App, 47.p.330).
5-27-83
1 pm - 5 pm, Dr. Wilhite and Detective Tracy in to talk
with patient regarding how injuries were received, (App
47,p.532).
5 pm - 6 pm...."Outside in wheelchair with
D.A.", (Paula Krogdahl);
(App 47, p. 532).
"Dr. Wilhite here talked with patient about her
injuries. Explaining what happened to her... Christie just
responded, "I don't know", (App47, p.539).
2 pm - 3 pm...."Paula from CSD here questioning
patient. Detective Hurrey also in room. Patient tearful",
(App 47,p.547).
6-07-83
12:30 pm...."Interview by
father, Paul Alton from D.A.
office, William Furtick
completed", (App 47, p. 558).
Later Dr. Miller writes, "Christie still fails to
remember details of shooting", (App 47, p. 348).
Out of hospital - into
Foster Home - sessions with Dr. Peterson
begin.
9-27-83
Dr. Peterson...."Meet Fred
Hugi, D. A...strategies elicit
trauma", (App 50, p.2032).
Dr. Peterson..."Meet Fred
Hugi, D. A...time limiting involvement 4-6 mos", (App 50, p. 2032).
Session with Christie "tears about police
accusations", (App 50, p. 2033),
(these were accusations against her
mom).
Christie told Dr. Peterson "now mom can't (don't
want to) be with her boyfriend because he thinks she done it...she told me.
Won't go to Arizona because everyone thinks she done it. But when it
happened I went blank" (App 50, p. 2036 and
App,89,p.p.
765-6).
10-31-83
Dr. Peterson began sessions with accusations, to which
Christie replied, "Seems like who did it ? Not mom because not
mean", (App 50, p. 2038 and App 89, p.p. 767-772).
11-07-83
Little brother brought to session with
Christie...Dr.
Peterson brought guns, (App 50, p. 2040 and App 89, p.p. 772-5).
11-14-8
Dr. Peterson asked Christie how many guns her mom brought
to Oregon from Arizona. Christie tells Dr. Peterson "in park I asked
who shot me, who done it? Mom said I can't tell you", (App 50, p.
2041
and App 89, p.p. 776-7).
11-16-83
Dr. Peterson received phone call from Susan Staffel...
"Diane Downs suing
C.S.D, Susan Staffel, etc.", (App 50, p. 2042 and App
89, p.777).
Session....NO NOTES (App 89, p.
784).
11-28-83
Session....NO NOTES (App 89 p.
784).
11-29-83
Evelyn Slaven (Foster parent) reports Christie asked why
did mom visit only
2x in hospital? They think maybe she done it",
(App
50, p. 2045 and App 89, p.p. 778-782).
Session...NO NOTES (App 89, p.784).
Christie cries to Dr. Peterson..."I want my mom to tell
the
truth...when she tells the truth then I don't have to remember no more."
Then Dr. Peterson makes Christie repeat the reconstructed events of the day of
the shooting, through 'dinner at the grandparents' , (App 50, p. 2046 and App 89,
p.p. 284-5).
12-19-83 Christie tells Dr. Peterson... "I want my mom to tell the truth first. Maybe I'll get to see her again. Mr. Furtick said". But who said, Christie’s mom wasn’t telling the truth? Clearly Mr. Furtick for one. Christie goes on to say she was at school the day of the incident. She went to her grandparent's home, ate a snack, watched TV, ate dinner. Then the kids and mom got in the car and went home. Dr. Peterson then reminds Christie of the 'guns in the trunk, big and little', (which again was inaccurate). The 'big gun' (rifle) was seized by police from the apartment. The 'little gun' was in the trunk, (App 96, p. 897). Neither gun was the murder weapon. The subterfuge was enough to lead Christie to say "even if my mom shot me". Dr. Peterson then reminded Christie that her mom had 'given away' a surrogate child. Christie cried, (App 50, p.p. 2048-2049; App 89, p.p.785-792).
12-20-83 Dr. Peterson called the Foster mother to instruct her to encourage Christie to think along lines that... 'relate to mom as perpetrator', (App 50, p. 2051).
1-02-84 Dr. Peterson returned Christie to the conclusion that mom's boyfriend "decided he didn't want to be with her because maybe she done it". Then he immediately instructed her to write a sentence about who shot Cheryl, (App 50, p. 2052 and App 89, p.p. 792-7).
One week later (1-09-84) Christie tells Dr. Peterson :
"I have to say... 'Christie Slaven'...'my mom did it'..'I watched'...'I could see her face", (App 50, p.205 and App 89, p.p. 798-801).
