Murdoch's own notes referring to differences between ammunition discovered at the crime scene and ammunition recovered from Diane's apartment.  In these Murdoch tried to find characteristic agreement between marks on the base of the cartridge E-14A and cartridge E-3. He wrote….."There are no such marks on E-14B or any other of the scene car ? cases...".  And of Pex he remarked (underlined)..."he made some tests wherein he caused marks to be made".  Concluding his own tests he stated...."a re-exam has caused me to reconsider, id falls apart".  The State Forensic expert applied four different tests between the ammunition and failed to make a connection.  What Mr. Murdoch is saying in essence is that the bolt that secured the cartridge in the chamber of Diane’s ex-husband’s gun. Was NOT the bolt that secured the ammunition in the murder weapon (App 24, p.955).
